BayCove Group Home - Canterbury St

A home for six men with mental retardation and autism. There are six men with a range of mental retardation and autistic issues residing in this house. Some residents have lived together since 1978 and share a history of helping each other to improve their quality of life by overcoming challenging behaviors and endeavoring to live independently. Three of the men are extremely independent and take public transportation to and from work and out into the community. The Canterbury Street home is located in a turn-of-the-century single-family house with a large front porch and spacious back yard. A typical residence is located on one floor of a large turn-of-the-century multi-family house. These buildings are well suited to accommodate three or four roomy bedrooms plus a common kitchen/dining area, living room, full bathroom, laundry room, an office and a medication room. We plan program locations so that public transportation, grocery stores and neighborhood recreational facilities are nearby. All individuals get up between 6:00 and 6:15am and take their medications shortly thereafter. After completing their morning chores, they have breakfast and get ready for work. All then leave to go to supported jobs outside of the home. They usually are gone from 8:00am until 3:00 or 4:00pm daily. Shortly after everybody returns home from his or her job, medications are distributed.
